Did you know Saturday October 28th is National Make A Difference day? Well
now you do! It is the 4th Saturday in October every year.

Now that you know, how do you plan to spend it?

12:10 pm - Taking Responsibility

karinablack
A thought to ponder, and I wanted to have an actual interaction about this.

Emotional Responsibility:

While it's true no one can "make" you feel an emotion, it's also true that there are those who (consciously or subconsciously) attempt to manipulate your emotions.

While you're still "responsible" for the emotions you feel, does not your assailant also hold some of the responsibility?

How do you take control and refuse to be manipulated any longer?

For all the female (or male, if you wish) members of intelite, I bring you: ultimatexbeauty, a place where people earn points by letting their inner beauty shine.

Yay, community promotion, all around.

And also, time to make this community alive a bit more, don't you think? Someone post something, dangit.

7:04 pm - Question for Pondering # 1

delyera
Okay, now I know this community has died a little bit and here is my attempt to revive it some. Here is one question for you all to ponder while eating your . . . oh, I don't know, lentil soup. Lentil soup is mental fruit!

Question for Pondering #1: Do you have a mentor? What makes someone worthy of being looked up to? Do you think it's important that people, especially youth, have mentors? What is the difference between a mentor and a hero?

9:35 pm - The "Tantalus" Principle

delyera
I'm not sure if anyone's all that familiar with Greek mythology, but I'm going to relay the story of Tantalus. He abused the privilege of eating with the gods and was sentenced to everlasting hunger and thirst in the Underworld. Food and water always were just out of his reach and just as he got close to them, they were jerked away. The closer he would come, the more desperate he would get. In other words: he was being tantalised.

This brings me to an interesting idea: many people constantly want what they can't have simply because they can't have it. It's like the "forbidden fruit" - the more it's off-limits, the more appealing it is.

I see the story of Tantalus all around me, day in and day out. People take advantage of something and then once it's gone, they keep aching for what will never be, even more so than when it was easily accessible. Why can't people simply accept what they presently have? I think it's the idea of "the grass is always greener" alongside with the "Tantalus" Principle, but who knows?

As I watched a tiny (but in my eyes, HUGE) house centipede crawl its way towward my unsuspecting self this evening, I screamed in horror and jumped onto my bed (a la every cheesy cartoon where the wimpy woman jumps on a chair to get away from a mouse), where it joined me soon after.

Why should everyone care?

This is why.

I'm sitting here (NOT IN MY HOUSE) wondering why people tend to be afraid of such tiny things. It really can't hurt me, but I was REALLY scared of it. Granted, I sure didn't expect it in the middle of February in snow-covered Minnesota, but why was I so scared to the point of actually screaming? Why is it the natural tendency to balk at tiny creepy-crawlies?

4:32 pm - Community Promo - SUCCESS!

delyera
I did some community promotion, so I'm hoping it will help this community to take off a little more. If there are any new members as a result of said promotions, please post and blah blah blah blah BLAH.

This is the first entry ever in this community and so far, I'm having trouble because it keeps fucking re-directing me everywhere and then won't load. Hmph. Oh and my "-" key takes a bit of a stronger push than all the other keys.
